It is my belief that we now live in a world where to be even remotely effective against terrorism in the medium to long term (5 - 30 years) …

… the laws, economic models and practices and related complex systems of capitalism will need to be addressed such that a relatively few well connected rich people don’t completely control virtually all of the world’s resources and labour.

I don’t think that it is fundamentally about wanting the Islamic religion to take over the world.

I believe that this is what the people who practice terrorism in organized ways on a large scale are trying to make clear. Whether they are succeeding or not is open to question .. Tony Blair today said that *our* way of life will not be compromised.

There is only one other alternative .. the path that has been chosen to date, which is the continued killing and various forms of suppression carried out on poor, very angry brown-skinned people. What makes us think that there will not be millions more of these people who continue to be very very angry for the rest of theirs’ and our lives ?

This belief does NOT make me a supporter of terrorism nor its methods in any way. I am 100% against violence of any form .. period. I’m observing what’s going on.

.

My first thought on waking and hearing this news … how horrible !

My second thoughts .. how I hope that this was not carried out by people who can be associated with Iraq or Islam in any way … although of course the news people on tv are already speculating about whether or which Islamic jihad terrorists are responsible.

What if it turns out to be some form of attack associated with economic issues and related to some completely unconnected protest groups ? Or, say, the IRA ?

My third thoughts … this is a small type of reminder of what can happen on any given day in Baghdad.

Terrorism of any sort, from any source, is a dismal statement about our inability to work effectively together as human beings. I wish I understood better why it has been so difficult throughout history.

I’ve recently decide to go back (on this blog) to what I know best … the design and dynamics of knowledge work and the structure of organizations … after spending a couple ofyears getting somewhat familiar with blogging.

Maybe I can bring something useful to that ongoing exploration .. because I remain convinced that the process and dynamics of blogging are fundamntal, central to *doing* knowledge work and to enabling the possibility of democratizing (to some degree) any given workplace. I think that is a human and worthwhile thing to spend some of my time on, given how many people pass so much of their lives in the workplace.

I suspect .. no, I think .. that what we know today as blogging will come to be seen as an optimal way to carry out what I’ll term here *organic* knowledge management .. *organic* because it involves people doing what they normally would do with information and knowledge when they are not constrained by structure, politics and people management processes.

We’ll see how it goes. Please feel free to gently help me back into my traces if I stray into silliness like opining on American politics, or how great certain aspects of living in Canada just might be.

.
