I remember when Autonomy (one of the first artificial-intelligence driven search engines) came out, promising the ability to analyze and assess patterns in text, and thus direct or help people to better search and connect with what they were seeking.

Apparently … and so one can imagine Autonomy or similar applications at use also by the NSA to watch over you and me, to make sure we be-have.
I wish I weren’t but I am sometimes of two minds about the security part. In today’s conditions, I think governments have to offer people some forms of perceived protection from random chaotic danger.
I disagree wholly with how most western governments (and others) approach the issue … and I think it’s a plaintive and impotent lament on my partt, as much of the world is armed to the teeth and points to history to suggest that violent confict has always been the case, whether state to tsyte, or band and tribe and peasant against rulers and oppressors.
I’ve always believed tha the way to greater security is deeper and broader understanding, more mutuality and reciprocity of support and exchange - all thos rhetorical flourishes habitually used by politicians, in effect ..
.. and so on .. I realize I am rambling, and naive.
