Noticed, Again … Major Consulting Firms Eyeing Enterprise 2.0

One of the major global HR firms, Watson Wyatt, was reputedly firing up a social media consulting practice (reported here via someone or other six or so months ago).

Here’s another sighting, via the Headshift blog, regarding KPMG (disclosure:

Honestly, I don’t think it’s ONLY about the personality transplant (although that’s a factor). I think it’s also about the fact that billing in the agency model doesn’t match the workflow for social media. From what I’ve seen, that’s the biggest reason for the circling.

Hi, Jake.

I think you make a very good and valid point. The type, and scope, and rhythm of consulting that I believe is necessary or that will be effective for the implementation and use of social media in organizations does not, I think, fit easily into the business model of large consulting firms.

That may become a real problem for them if social software becomes widespread and omnipresent as a core element of the enabling and support for collaborative knowledge work.
