Thanks, tho’ I’m just the grasshopper messenger .. as I said, it was indeed masterful. i think of those concepts every day now.

“A Short History of Progress” is worth the read, I shit you not .. covers everything Jared Diamond’s “Collapse” does with a quarter of the words twice as well written .. imo.

My kinda math. I think Vonnegut’s on the record saying most things are too long. I read his “Galapagos” one tiny chapter a night in bed, falling directly asleep. I’m gonna miss him when he’s gone.

Personal privacy is very important. The right to free expression is very important. People select friends, students, employees, associates based on criteria that can be applied through an assessment of public utterances. There are enough of us in the world that we shouldn’t - I think - let other people’s selection criteria inhibit our personal freedom. On the other hand…

With power comes responsibility and not all those who have been graced with great power behave responsibly. Personal privacy and anonymity can protect us and those we love from invidious distinctions that could harm us socially, economically, and even physically.

The choice should be ours, individually and collectively, and it should be a choice made consciously. And a slip of the keyboard today should be able to be tidied up downstream, as opinions or personal circumstances change.

Redaction services might be a good business to open.

I wonder if Bush’s Texas Air National Guard service record, or lack thereof, would pass an employer’s background check today .. or some of what he is known to have uttered in public, about thiosis or that, including testimony as to his in-class brilliance and attytood by past profesors.

Yes, we should all be cut some slack, or have areas of our lives that are off-limits to potential employers .. etc. And, your points about responsibility are not to be dismissed, and are appreciated … at least by me.
